Laser Gum Treatment

Dr. Highsmith was the 1st dentist in the Haywood/Buncombe County area to be trained and licensed to perform Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure™ (LANAP™), which is FDA approved and patented to treat gum disease through the use of a laser. If periodontal disease is controlled, it makes it possible to save and restore the affected teeth. Using a laser instead of the traditional methods makes it easier to control the disease because there is less pain and discomfort involved so patients will more likely go through with the procedure. Lasers are also more precise so it minimizes the removal of healthy tissue. The other benefits of using a laser to treat gum disease are that there is less recovery time, less bleeding, and less swelling.
