Dental Infections Can Be Serious

There has been an alarming rise in serious dental infections over the past few years. This translates to a 41% increase in the number of hospitalizations for dental abscesses from 2000 to 2008!

If anything, these numbers have probably risen even more because of the long recession and patients putting off needed dental treatment. Oral health issues don’t go away on their own – small cavities are much easier to deal with than a tooth with massive decay and infection, and less expensive too.

Most dental disease can be prevented. We like to take a team approach combining good home care (something you have to do) with great professional care on a regular basis (dental hygiene appointments and checkups). Home care includes brushing and flossing every day, no way around it.

Your dental hygiene visit does more for you than just give you a clean, healthy smile – it also lets us check for problems and, if needed, treat them early.

Dental Emergencies

For some reason health emergencies always seem to happen on weekends or holidays and dental emergencies are no different. The difference with dental emergencies is that a visit to the ER is not going to solve the problem. Emergency departments at hospitals do not typically have a dentist on staff so the most they can do is provide medication for the pain and tell you to call a dentist. Don’t waste the cost of an expensive ER visit – just call us if you are having a problem or experiencing pain.
